Lunéville
Today a couple of us went to the Château des Lumières in Lunéville, about 20 minutes away by train. On the way to the train station I ran into several of my students (and even ended up sitting next to one on the packed train...random!). I see them everywhere! Lunéville itself is a small, but very scenic, town with a castle/palace that had acted as the home of the Duchy of Lorraine for hundreds of years. Members of the House of Lorraine included Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor and Marie-Antoinette. Unfortunately, an accidental fire burned much of the palace about 5 years ago. While a lot of it has been repaired, they still have a long way to go before they are done. Nonetheless, parts of the building are open with various historical exhibits to visit free of charge. The palace is situated among scenic grounds right near the heart of the town.
